General Testing Information 

This standard puts forth requirements for electrical and electronic equipment to electromagnetic disturbances from radio-frequency (RF) range of 150kHz up to 80Mhz. This standard does not apply to equipment not having at least one conducting wire and or cable that can be coupled to the equipment. This standard can be purchased through the IEC Webstore. The 2015 version four is the latest  for this conducted RF immunity standard and supersedes all previous versions. The most recent versions include several additions that must be considered including, use of CDNs, calibration of clamps, and measurement uncertainty of the voltage test level. This standard specifies three main methodologies for testing: 

  • Coupling Decoupling Network (CDN) - Preferred method as it is easily reproducible and protection of the AE (auxiliary equipment)
  • Electromagnetic (EM) Clamp - Injection device capacitive and inductive coupling
  • Bulk Current Injection Clamp (BCI) - Clamp-on "current" injecting device on a cable
  • Direct Injection - Injected directly on to screened and coaxial cablies via a 100Ohm Resistor. 

 

Test Levels

Test levels are set at the EUT port of the coupling devices and the below diagram is for open circuit teste levels (e.m.f). An important consideration for the EUT is that the signal is 80% amplitude modulated with a 1 kHz sine wave. Keep in mind, for reach of the methodologies for testing there is different test levels required. The standard specifically mentions that the test levels selected during the testing should accurately reflect the electromagnetic environment which the equipment functions.
