Real world ESD phenomena can involve fast discharge current rise times of up to 400ps. While these faster phenomena are mentioned in the equipment-level standards, the standards only specify rise times in the range of 700ps – 1ns. This optional tip can generate rise times of less than 400ps, allowing investigation of high frequency phenomena beyond the standards.
