Overview
Rental test equipment rentals provides testing capabilities without expensive capital expenditures. This automotive EMI based standard includes a load dump test requirement. A load dump occurs when a discharged battery disconnects while current is still being generated through alternating, holding all other loads on the circuit constant. ISO 16750 part 2: electrical loads includes testing for direct current supply voltage, overvoltage, superimposed alternating voltage, slow decrease and increase of supply voltage, Discontinuities in supply voltage, and several others. This standard sets the temperature, waveforms, methods, and generators. The four major sections for this standard are electrical, mechanical, climatic, and chemical loads. This standard can be purchased via the ISO website.
Testing
Unless otherwise specified in the standard it provides guidance on limits for frequency and time: ±5 %, voltages: ±0.2V, and resistance: ±10%. This standard includes a variety of tests they include a voltage drop, load dump, open circuit test, and several others. The load dump testing is split into two different categories, testing with/without centralized load dump suppression. This standard specifies in Annex A, Test load dump pulse generator verification procedure, requirements for test equipment for this automotive standard. The tolerance of the matching resistor is ± 1 % for this automotive standard. To vary that the generator meets necessary requirements it is tested under no load matched load conditions.
