    Transient Generators

Transient generators are EMC test instruments designed to inject impulse or oscillatory transients onto power or data lines to evaluate the immunity of the equipment under test (EUT). These instruments can be configured to meet a variety of testing requirements, with a large distinction being models that provide combination wave surge testing up to approximately 5 kV and those capable of approximately 6 kV or higher. They are ommonly used for immunity testing in accordance with IEC 61000-4-4, IEC 61000-4-5, and IEC 61000-4-12. Some models can also support IEC 61000-4-11 testing when used with external accessories.

Most transient generators include an integrated single-phase coupling decoupling network (CDN) that enables direct coupling of disturbances onto the power lines while isolating the AC supply from the generated test signals. For three-phase equipment or higher-power applications, external CDNs are commonly used. These coupling networks are designed to meet the requirements of the applicable IEC standards and are designed for many
    different applications.

    Related Questions

Yes, we have current annual ISO 17025 calibrations on all of our rental test systems unless otherwise specified. We include the calibration documentation with the system, which will be on the USB drive with the equipment. If you have any questions when the equipment arrives, contact us info@ts-emc.com.

These transient generators by themselves do not offer testing capabilities for 3-Phase equipment under test, however, they can be used with external CDNs, which will allow for testing. CDNs vary based on the current level as well as the associated voltage.

For power-on testing, the equipment should be connected through the coupling decoupling network. The power input for the equipment is connected to the back of the test system, with the equipment then connected to the front. The CDNs on each unit have limits for the voltage and current that should be adhered to otherwise, damage will occur to the test system.

All transient generators, regardless of weight and size, must be shipped LTL freight attached to a pallet. This helps to prevent damage to the test system that may occur during transportation.
