Coupling decoupling networks or CDNs provide the capability to put pulses at the correct degree onto power mains or supply lines at a variety of voltage and current steps. The two most commonly required pulses to be applied to power lines would be combination wave surges based upon IEC 61000-4-5 and electrical fast transients (EFT/Burst) based upon IEC 61000-4-4. Given the nature of EFT events, couplers associated with this EMI event do not necessarily require communication with the generator. Surge based couplers, often referred to as surge coupling networks require communication connections with the associated generator in order to properly place the pulses at the correct degree or time on the associated power line. There are several threshold, for both current and voltage that these networks are designed for without causing damage.
