Overview
General Overview
Electromagnetic compatibility equipment covers a wide range of test equipment designed to ensure that electrical and electronic equipment functions in its anticipated electrical environment. Often times tester are built around compliance to a particular standard, or group of standards, like the EM Test NX5 Platform and associated surge and electrical fast transient standards. These test systems offer different capabilities depending upon the modules installed and testing capabilities can vary significantly. Many standards place specific requirements on the test setup and accessories. We often bundle these accessories and generators to provide compliant systems, like the IEC 61000-4-3 & IEC 61000-4-6 test packages below.
Rental Test Systems
Our rental test systems cover a wide range of standards and requirements and arrive ready for testing to begin. Often times, as with our automotive conducted immunity systems a laptop with the associated manufacturer software and license is included. This allows for quick an efficient testing and eliminates the need for timely software installations or running systems exclusively through the front panel interface. Our inventory is constantly updated and meets the latest version of the standards. We also offer current ISO 17025 accredited calibrations included in the rental price. As with all our distributed ESD systems, including the Teseq NSG 435, these systems can be rented and shipped the same day via our website.
Surge & EFT
Transient Systems
Transients, a common part of conducted immunity testing span many different applications and electrical and electronics systems. The two most common tested interference occurrence are surge (combination wave) and electrical fast transients (EFT). These series of immunity occurrences fall under IEC 61000-4 series of tests (IEC 61000-4-5 & IEC 61000-4-4 respectively).A few major considerations with these type of equipment, the associated test voltage, coupling decoupling network (CDN), and associated accessories. Often times single phase mains CDNs are built into the platform, meeting many testing requirements, however external couplers for a variety applications are available.
4kV Rental Surge & Bust Generators
Our rental inventory of both combination wave surge generators and electrical fast transient systems provide a diverse set of testing capabilities including up to 15kV capabilities with the Teseq NSG 3150 system. These systems all come with current ISO 17025 accredited calibrations and often a laptop with software installed. The associated systems also arrive with all required cords and license codes allowing for testing to begin upon arrival.

Conducted RF
RF systems, which include a combination of required components, often used in this conducted immunity standard. The systems include several key components for testing to IEC 61000-4-6 often including amplifier, power meter, signal generator, dual directional coupler, sensors and screen interface usually accompanied by software. The NSG 4070 comes in several different wattage variations including 110 watt, 80 watt, and 60 watt with associated power meters and signal generator built in. Given the different test levels and evaluation of testing environment, often times external amplifiers can be used in place of the built in the amplifier. (additional dual directional coupler and associated equipment required). The below picture are the most common systems made by Teseq and EM Test.

CDN
The preferred method of testing for this standard is coupler decouple networks (CDNs). This is because it fits it is easily reproducible and offers protection of the AE. There is also a given contingency that if the CDNs are not available on the market, then other injection methods maybe used. There are seven different variations depending upon the type of cable being used, CDN-S1, CDN-M1/-M2/-M3, CDN-AF2, CDN-T2, CDN-T4, CDN-AF8, and CDN-T8. These are presented in diagrams 6.2.2.2, 6.2.2.4, 6.2.2.3, and 6.2.2.5.
EM Test - CDN M2/M3/16A
- 2 or 3 AC/DC Supply Lines/Cables
- Frequency 150 kHz - 300 MHz
- AC/DC Max - 250V/16A 1-Phase
- CDN Designed for EN/IEC 61000-4-6
EM Clamps
Another common method for testing conducted RF immunity is the electromagnetic (EM) clamp. For this standard it specifies operating frequencies from .15MHz-80MHz however, often times they cover up to 1GHz for added testing capabilities. These are ideal as they allow for a variety of different types of cable and are readily available on the market, both for purchases and rentals. Below you will find two common EM Clamps that can be used with a variety of systems. The EM101 clamp also includes a decoupling clamp that can be used to help protect the remaining equipment connected to the EUT.
