Rentals of electromagnetic comparability test equipment provide a cost-effective solution to occasional testing needs. This standard by General Motors puts forth the environmental and durability testing requirements for Electrical/Electronic components for both commercial and passenger vehicles. This standard can be purchased at the IHS Standards Store. It is divided up into several major sections including requirements, performance verification, analysis, and design validation (DV). This General Motors automotive Standard has the majority of EMC based testing requirements under the design validation section. Evaluations, unless otherwise specified, fall under the functional status classification system with five distinct criteria. All of our Automotive EMC Test Equipment meets requirements within the standard and comes with an A2LA accredit calibration.
This standard mandates testing for parasitic current, power supply interruptions, battery voltage dropout, Sinusoidal/Pulse Superimposed Voltage, Intermittent/Continuous Short Circuit to Battery & ground, and many other methods of evaluating an electrical systems immunity capabilities. GMW3172 for section 9.2.2 Power Supply Interruptions references test methods according to ISO 16750 and Reset behavior at voltage drop to GMW14082. ISO 16750 is also referenced several times though out this automotive standard as a baseline to which additional requirements are placed. Much of our automotive EMC test equipment rentals provide testing to a variety of standards, allowing for requirements of both General Motors and ISO to be met. Test levels are based on a code letter basis and each require specific test voltage. Table 6 below defines minimum and maximum voltages used measured at the connector of component used in specifying the component criteria.
GMW3172 rentals offer testing to this standard providing the required waveform and capability, while offering the equipment at a fraction of the cost of buying new or used. We carry automotive EMC test equipment by both EM test and Teseq, each providing unique testing abilities and interfaces. Our automotive test generators come with an A2LA accredited calibration and technical support should any issues arise. Our technical support provides prompt solutions from an expert helping to decrease the learning curve. We offer automotive rental equipment from Teseq and EM Test, including the NSG5500, PA5840, and LD200N, VDS200N, and LD200N combination. These automotive test generators often coming with a laptop to remove software issues during setup.
