Typically setup requirements include, power amplifiers, EMI Antennas, signal generator (with required modulation), power meters, dual directional couplers (if not built), and chamber to conduct testing. EMC amplifiers vary in both frequency range as well as wattage and type (continuous wave and pulsed) designed to meet a variety of requirements including MIL-STD-461 and RTCA/DO-160.

Signal generators are necessary for radiated immunity tests, typically providing AM, FM, and pulse modulation capabilities. If EMC software is used it is important that drivers are available for the associated signal generator to allow for communication. The frequency range of the signal generator must correlate to those of the amplifier for full capabilities over the range.
