ANSI C63.16-2016 (Revision of ANSI C63.16-1993) - American National Standard Guide for Electrostatic Discharge Test Methodologies and Acceptance Criteria for Electronic Equipment

OverviewANSI C63.16 standard by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is designed to assess the effects of an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) event  on a given product in different environments and customer use. This standard surpasses some testing parameters of other standards (EN IEC 61000-4-2) allowing for an increased immunity of products to this type of event. The goal of ANSI C63.16 is to lower customer complaints by identify failures related to ESD events that may not have presented themselves with testing during prescribed existing international standards. ESD Simulators are devices used to duplicate this type of ESD event under a variety of conditions. This IEEE ANSI standard is available for purchase at the IEEE Standards Association website. This standard is not intended for manufacturing, service, or maintenance of ESD generators. This standard includes sections regarding laboratory test conditions, test methods, unique ESD test procedures, test reports and ESD simulator considerations.
